Frequently Asked Questions
-
What does "Serlumé" mean? Serlumé is a portmanteau born from the idea of "Serene" and "Lume" (Light). Our brand is a family-founded venture dedicated to the art of atmosphere—creating scents that evoke mood and emotion.
What makes your candles different from store-bought brands? The difference is in the complexity and the chemistry. Most mass-market candles use paraffin wax (a petroleum byproduct) and linear scents. We use a premium soy-coconut blend for a cleaner burn and develop complex, moody fragrance profiles that offer more depth than the standard one- or two-note combinations found elsewhere.Who is behind Serlumé? Serlumé is a father-son venture. We founded this company to combine our shared passion for craftsmanship and high-quality design. Our goal is to move beyond the "functional" candle and create something that serves as a permanent, atmospheric fixture in your living space.

What type of wax do you use? We use a premium soy and coconut wax blend. We chose this specific blend because coconut wax provides an incredible "scent throw" (the ability to fill a room with fragrance), while soy wax ensures a long, slow, and clean burn. Our wax is sustainable, biodegradable, and paraffin-free.
What kind of wicks do you use? We use lead-free, 100% cotton wicks. These are designed to provide a steady, consistent flame and a clean burn that allows our atmospheric fragrance profiles to shine without the interference of smoke or soot.
Are your fragrances safe? Yes. All Serlumé fragrances are phthalate-free and paraben-free. We use high-quality fragrance oils infused with natural essential oils to create our signature moody and coastal scents.

How do I prevent my candle from "tunneling"?
To ensure an even burn, always allow your candle to reach a full "melt pool" during its first lighting. This means the wax should melt all the way to the edges of the vessel, which typically takes 2 to 3 hours. Candles have a "memory," and this first burn ensures they continue to burn evenly for the life of the candle.
Why is it important to trim the wick?
Trimming your wick to 1/4 inch before every lighting is essential for a clean, safe burn. A trimmed wick prevents the flame from becoming too large, reduces soot (the black smoke), and stops "mushrooming" at the tip, ensuring your fragrance remains pure.
How long should I burn my Serlumé candle at one time?
We recommend burning your candle for no more than 4 hours at a time. This prevents the vessel from becoming too hot and preserves the integrity of the fragrance oils.
When should I stop burning my candle?
For safety reasons, discontinue use when only 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel. Lighting a candle with too little wax can cause the glass to overheat.
